On Sunday, May 17, thousands poured onto the National Mall to participate in Rededicate 250: A National Jubilee of Prayer, Praise, and Thanksgiving.
Rededicate 250 is one of many events sponsored by Freedom 250, the organization tasked with coordinating celebrations of the semiquincentennial during 2026. Launched in December 2025, Freedom 250 brings together public and private funding for celebrations, tool-kits for people throwing their own celebrations, and media promoting American history.
Rededicate 250 offers a window into the current state of Protestantism in the U.S. Labeled “Christian nationalist” by its Protestant detractors, lauded as recapturing a “Christian America” by its supporters, and ignored by Protestants who simply could not relate, the event offered a kind of split-screen perspective on Protestantism.
